The experiment to bring in Petr Mrazek to be a 1B with Jack Campbell in Toronto turned out to be a complete failure. After having a good but short season with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2020-21, the Leafs thought they were getting an above average goaltender at a fair cost. That was not the case at all.

Mrazek had a horrible season this year which was plagued with injuries. His record was 12-6-0, which sounds very good, but his person stats were dreadful. Mrazek finished the season with a 3.34 GAA and .888 SV%.

The 30 year old goaltender still has 2 years remaining on a 3 year deal with the Leafs that has a cap hit of $3,800,000.

Per The Athletic, the Leafs are going to need to package a prospect to get a team to take him off their hands.

The Toronto Maple Leafs may have to package a roster player or a prospect like Nick Abruzzese in any trade that involves Petr Mrazek if they want to lose his contract. Per, The Athletic

Another option if the Leafs want to avoid trading away a prospect is buying out the contract. Per Capfriendly.com if they buyout the remaining two seasons, they would have to pay these cap penalties for the next 4 years

year 1:$1,033,333 - Year 2: $833,333 - Year 3: $1,433,333 - year 4: $1,433,333
