In North America, the NHL is often considered to be the lowest of the 'big four', with the potential for the MLS to take over that mantle, and a lot of that is on the back of poor marketing from the top brass in the NHL.
An incredible sport
Despite this, those that watch the NHL rightfully believe it to be one of the best sports in the world, with high octane energy, physicality and off-the-charts skill, and with the right marketing, it could explode.
With the league expanding into two new cities over the past six years, the player base is as strong as ever, and now, it appears the NHL has one massive fan, who has spread the good word about hockey.
UFC President
Dana White has often been outspoken about his hatred for sports like soccer, and while he has openly criticized the marketing of the NHL, it's clear he's a massive hockey fan.
They're on skates, with a crooked stick, and they've got to shoot into a goal where the guy standing in front of it is just as big as the goal itself, and anybody can take your head off at any moment. It's a crazy sport.
While there's much more to the game than what White said here, it's a good advertisement for the game, and if the NHL leaders can tap into that, there's no reason why they can't become a global phenomenon on par with MLB, NFL and the NBA.
