Earlier this week Brad Marchand crashed hard into the boards after a questionable hit from Garnet Hathaway. The hit left Marchand in visible pain as the star winger immediately left the ice favouring his shoulder/collarbone.

Concerns about the injury were only exacerbated by video of Marchand on the bench unable to celebrate a goal. The video clearly showed Marchand favouring his injured arm and unable to lift it at all.

Bruce Cassidy shared that Marchand would be unavailable this weekend and would need to be evaluated again next week once the swelling had gone down.

Today on the 32 Thoughts podcast both Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek shared some thoughts on the injury. With both speculating on the severity.

Friedman: This is a potentially altering injury, Bruce Cassidy didn't say much about it, if you ever injured your collarbone before, and that's what it looked like, collarbone/shoulder area...

Marek: When you saw he couldn't raise his arms on the goal, ouf.

If Marchand is going to miss significant time it could cause issues for the Bruins, but with the Eastern Conference appearing all but set for a Wild Card spot it could also result in a some additional rest for a Bruins' star player.

Update: Despite what Bruce Cassidy said and the ideas shared by Friedman and Marek it does appear the injury to Marchand might not be as severe as initially feared.
