Before clearing waivers, there was much speculation about where the next destination was going to be for Brendan Lemieux.
Now it's a reality: the 28-year-old Canadian left winger has joined HC Davos, announced the Swiss National League club on Monday.
Brendan Lemieux's deal runs for the rest of this season plus two more, until 2027, when he'll be 31. The team did not indicate whether the deal includes an NHL escape clause, which is standard in most multi-year European deals.
The 2014 second-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres collected 74 points and 548 penalty minutes in 307 NHL regular-season games from 2017 to 2024.
In his career, he has played for the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers, and Carolina Hurricanes, adding one goal and 18 penalty minutes in eight playoff games. This season, Lemieux has yet to feature in an NHL game.
However, he scored two goals in 12 AHL appearances with the Chicago Wolves, his most recent outing being on November 20 against the Manitoba Moose. On Friday, the Hurricanes placed him on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.
HC Davos, fresh from the 2-1 overtime win against HC Lugano before the international break, next plays on December 18 at home against the SCL Tigers, a game in which Lemieux could debut.
The team will play four more league games before hosting the Spengler Cup from December 26-31 and giving fans from all over the world a chance to see Lemieux take to the ice.
Davos, a 31-time Swiss champion since its founding in 1921, presently leads the National League with 57 points from 29 games.
Lemieux will join a star-studded lineup that includes Swiss legend Andres Ambuhl, former NHLers Joakim Nordstrom, Filip Zadina, Klas Dahlbeck, Julius Honka, and 19-year-old New York Rangers prospect Rico Gredig.
