Insider Confirms The Hurricanes Are Shopping A Controversial Defenseman
The Carolina Hurricanes are on their way to yet another playoff run in the Eastern Conference. As the trade deadline approaches NHL insider Frank Seravalli believes the Hurricanes are going to move on from one of their top defensemen.
Insider Says Hurricanes Are Shopping Controversial Defenseman
Today Frank Seravalli spoke about several topics related to the NHL trade deadline. One player that he spoke about specifically was Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo.
As teams continue to scour the market for right-shot defensemen, sounds like #Canes have set the ask at a 5th round pick for Tony DeAngelo and they will retain 50 percent to make it happen ($837,500).
It's been a tough year and they're willing to grant a change of scenery.
Tony DeAngelo is reportedly unhappy with the situation he has been put in by head coach Rod Brind'Amour. The Hurricanes will now look to move him and DeAngelo once again leaves surrounded in controversy.
Will Any Team Take A Chance On Controversial DeAngelo?
This is nowhere near the first time that Tony DeAngelo has had problems before leaving a team. His last two stops prior to Carolina also both ended in disaster.
The first being with the New York Rangers where DeAngelo allegedly got into a fight with backup goaltender Alexander Georgiev. DeAngelo was waived shortly after this altercation.
Next was his stop in Philadelphia. Upon his trade to Carolina DeAngelo was asked why things did not work out in Philly. DeAngelo's answer paints a picture of a bad relationship between himself and head coach John Tortorella.
Tony DeAngelo is happy to be back with Carolina. What went wrong in Philly? "The coach and I wound up not fitting together, I guess that would be the main reason." That would be Torts.
All of these issues combined with other off-ice problems have left several teams taking DeAngelo out of consideration. As the trade deadline approaches we will all have to wait and see if yet another organization takes a chance on him.
