Today a new report from Elliotte Friedman confirmed that a new business deal done by the Washington Capitals is set to screw over 23 NHL teams.

In recent days the Washington Capitals made a deal to buy the popular NHL contract website CapFriendly. The site kept track of contracts, buyouts, and other various things pertaining to the salary cap and had a lot of user tools as well.

It won't happen until July, but according to multiple sources, the Washington Capitals have reached an agreement to purchase the outstanding CapFriendly website

Adding on to this news Elliotte Friedman confirmed that 23 NHL teams utilized the CapFriendly as their resource to manage contracts. This means that all 23 will now either need to find a new public source to use or create their own system from the ground up.

Friedman names teams that have something when CapFriendly goes offline (32TP): Seattle, New Jersey, Carolina, Chicago, Islanders, Toronto, Columbus. Pittsburgh didn't have anything before, but once Dubas got there they started building something.

Now there likely will be a replacement for CapFriendly that emerges throughout the summer however it is not guaranteed to be as good. If NHL teams want to ensure the same quality they will likely need to invest resources in creating their own version of the site.

As the offseason gets underway and CapFriendly is eventually shut down it will be interesting to see how long it takes for a new site to take its place. Hopefully, in the near future, we will have a new resource to utilize.
