Four Top Prospects Could Switch Teams At The Trade Deadline, Per Daily Faceoff
According to Daily Faceoff, four top prospects could switch teams at the trade deadline.
The NHL trade deadline is in less than three weeks, and most analysts are trying to predict what will go down around the League.
In a report, Daily Faceoff suggested a few names who could get traded before the deadline.
Let's take a look at each of them.
Simon Nemec
The New Jersey Devils' 2nd overall pick in 2022 has been spending most of his time in the American Hockey League. Recently, he made the headlines for massive comments towards his organization, saying he could be tempted to request a trade if things didn't change:
"It's a business, but right now I can't remember any No. 2 draft pick that went to the farm for a third year."
"It's hard to say, it's still too early to request a trade. If this situation continues, it will have to be addressed, but for now, this is how it stands. I believe I've proven multiple times that I belong in the NHL."
This season, he was limited to 11 games in the NHL, in which he tallied one assist. In the AHL, he scored 22 points, including five goas, in 33 games.
Rutger McGroarty
Kyle Dubas, the Pittsburgh Penguins' President of Hockey Operations, made a controversial move when he traded Brayden Yagr to the Winnipeg Jets in return for Rutger McGroarty.
Here's what he said at the time:
"We had a difficult decision to make with this trade because we hold Brayden Yager in such a high regard as a person and prospect. After much consideration, we decided that the opportunity to add Rutger McGroarty was ultimately in the best interest of the Penguins. He possesses the combination of ability, leadership and competitiveness that the Penguins need to achieve our goals in the short and long run. We look forward to welcoming Rutger and his family to the city of Pittsburgh and the Penguins." McGroarty has struggled this season, scoring only 21 points in 41 AHL games. It would be surprising to see the Penguins trading him, considering the price they paid to acquire him from the Jets last summer.
Brendan Bisson
The Vegas Golden Knights are used to trade their first overall picks, with Brisson being one of the only one remaining.
Drafted 29th overall in 2020, he has been great in the NCAA, but hasn't been able to show constant progress in the AHL to believe the Golden Knights would be interested in keeping him long term.
He did took part in nine games with the Golden Knights this season, but hasn't been able to add his name to the scoresheet. He tallied 15 points in 37 AHL games this year.
Erik Portillo
Portillo could also be on the move, per Draily Faceoff. The Kings have a lot of depth between the pipes, and the 24-year-old could benefit from a change in scenery. Even though he has success in the AHL, LA could decide to use him as a trade asset to reinforce their lineup.
