It seems like Leafs GM Brad Treliving still thinks his team needs some grit, and he sees current Anaheim Ducks defenseman Radko Gudas as the perfect player to fit his need.
Gudas, who had 128 penalty minutes this past season, also added 18 points in 66 games played with a +14 point differential.
Gudas is best known for being a pest on defense, always looking to start a scuffle. He's also not afraid to finish anything that he started, getting into well over 20 fights in his NHL career.
The rumor is that Toronto would part ways with defenseman Timothy Liljegren as well as a 2027 first-round pick for the Czech-born defenseman.
Liljegren, just 25 years old, posted 3 goals and 20 assists for 23 points in 55 games. These totals tied his career high in points from his 2021/22 season.
Maple Leafs fans have been quick to say no to this rumor, noting that giving up a younger defenseman as well as a first-round pick is a high price for a player that most don't see as an upgrade.
While this might be true, Brad Treliving has not been shy in noting that he feels that his team needs to be tougher to play against. Radko Gudas would certainly fit the bill.
