The hockey fraternity received a rather sobering reminder this week how life could change in an instant. You could be out doing your own thing, then whoops, it's all turned upside down.
On Monday afternoon, there was a close call, and mercifully, it would appear the ending isn't as tragic. The QMJHL Cape Breton Eagles reported three of their players had been involved in a car accident where two have already been released from hospital care, while the third remains there for medical observation.
In a release, the team said that forwards Angelo Fullerton and Lucas Romeo, as well as defenceman Brayden Schmitt were driving to Cape Breton when the crash occurred. Fullerton and Romeo have since been released from the hospital, late on Monday, while Schmitt remains in for observation on his injuries.
The Eagles and their GM, Sylvain Courtier, are thankful that the players received such great care and are relieved it wasn't worse. The fact that nobody else was injured was a big plus. They're optimistic that Brayden Schmitt will be out of the hospital soon.
It's comforting to know all parties involved are okay and getting the treatment they need.
