Vladimir Bure was an acclaimed athlete and a coach, leaving his mark both in the swimming and hockey worlds. The man won four Olympic medals in swimming, with one silver and three bronze, and later on, contributed to the New Jersey Devils Stanley Cup victories in 2000 and 2003 as their strength and conditioning coach. However, probably his most famous role was that of the father of hockey stars Valeri and Pavel Bure.
Speed and skill were just two of the elements that wowed fans when Hockey Hall of Fame inductee and one of the NHL's 100 Greatest Players Pavel Bure took to the ice. The winner of two Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophies, in addition to the Calder Trophy, Pavel was an absolute legend with the Vancouver Canucks but also made his mark with both the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers.
Valeri Bure, not quite as famous, had a mighty fine NHL career in his own right with the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, and Dallas Stars.
Yesterday, the sporting world lost Vladimir Bure. The two-time Stanley Cup champion, four-time Olympic medalist, and proud father of two standout NHLers will always be remembered.
Rest in peace, Vladimir Bure.
