Training camps in the OHL are just around the corner, with pre-season games set to begin at the end of this month, and this major trade involving Carson Rehkopf has just broken out. The Brampton Steelheads excitedly announced on their social media that they acquired the top Kraken prospect, and going Kitchener's way is 10 draft picks: three second rounders (2025, 2026, 2027), three third rounders (2025 x2, 2028), three fourth rounders (2025, 2026, 2027, and lastly a 2026 seventh round pick.
19-year-old Rehkopf appeared in 60 games for the OHL's Rangers last season, having dominated by scoring 95 points. He also added 11 points in the team's 10 playoff games. Rehkopf's impressive resume also includes a stint with Team Canada at the 2024 World Juniors.
Many are wondering why Kitchener would get rid of such a top prospect, and that's because they are currently in a slight re-build, as two of their other top players are likely to join their NHL clubs Montreal and Seattle, those players being Eduard Sale and Filip Mesar.
Brampton recently relocated from Mississauga, and they are expected to challenge for the top spot in the OHL's Eastern Conference next season. Now that they've added Rehkopf, they have their eyes set on the Championship.
The OHL has produced so many NHL superstars, with the most recent one being Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, and it will continue to produce more and more as the years go by. It's very exciting hockey to watch, and many fans will be tuning in for the upcoming season to see the next great franchise player emerge.
