The panthers selected Aaron Ekblad first overall at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and he's been the face of the team ever since. Despite all this and the fact that Florida just won the Cup, Ekblad has been in trade rumors. A new tool called PuckGM allows users to create their own trades online, and one member proposed a deal that included Ekblad being sent to Toronto.
In this trade, the Leafs would get Carter Verhaeghe as well as Ekblad, and in return, they would be sending Nick Robertson, Timothy Liljegren, Calle Jarnkrok, and Bobby McMann to the Panthers, as well as a 2025 first and second-round pick.
NHL insider David Pagnotta did reveal ahead of the free agency period that began on July 1st that Ekblad was on the Panthers' transfer list.
Despite the fact that Ekblad is on the trading block, no deals have been made yet and none appear to be really close to being done, however, chatter is increasing which could ultimately lead to a deal being made.
Aaron Ekblad has played in 676 career NHL games and scored 115 goals while adding 232 assists for 347 total points.
