NHL reporter reveals top prospect has left Montreal Canadiens organization
Nicolas Cloutier of TVA Sports took to Twitter/X to confirm that the Montreal Canadiens have confirmed that Rhett Pitlick is no longer with them.
The Canadiens confirm to me that Rhett Pitlick is no longer a hope for the organization.
Rhett, brother of former Canadiens forward Rem Pitlick, has spent the last number of years in the NCAA.
He was selected with the 5th round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft and is coming off the best season of his NCAA career, but now the news is that the Canadiens have relinquished their rights to their 2019 draft pick.
Now fresh off his NCAA career with the University of Minnesota, he will be looking elsewhere for another chance at the NHL.
This news came as a shock to many since, this time last year, it looked like Pitlick was well on his way to landing his first-ever NHL contract. However, now he is free to sign with any of the 31 other NHL clubs.
Given the Canadiens' abundance of offensive talent up front, it makes sense as to why the fit wasn't there between the two parties.
His brother, Rem, is also a free agent who last played as a member of the Rockford IceHogs. It'll be interesting to see where both Pitlick brother's land
