"Iron" Mike Keenan provides an update on his health and career
Mike Keenan, a Stanley Cup champion and often controversial figure in the hockey world, has announced a significant change in his coaching career at the age of 74.
Although he hasn't worked in the NHL since the 2008-09 season, Keenan's name remains prominent. With a Stanley Cup win with the New York Rangers in 1994 and ranking fifth in NHL playoff coaching wins, his legacy is well-known.

Recently, Keenan revealed on his X account that he is no longer the head coach of the Italian men's hockey team, a position he held since October 2022. He is transitioning to a consultant role following major open-heart surgery.
"No longer Italy's National Head Coach, but will be their hockey consultant. Recovering well from open heart surgery," Keenan shared.
Keenan's coaching career is marked by success and controversy. Known for his intense style, he often struggled with maintaining relationships, leading to multiple abrupt exits from teams such as the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, and Florida Panthers. Beyond the NHL, he found success in the KHL, winning the Gagarin Cup with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in 2014.
Keenan also overcame prostate cancer in 2018, demonstrating his resilience. His storied career and personal battles continue to make him a fascinating figure in hockey.
