The Boston Bruins have a big decision to make on young forward Trent Frederic, and now Elliotte Friedman has hinted that a blockbuster trade could come soon.

After a slow start to the 2024/25 campaign, the Boston Bruins have turned things around in recent times, but without the star power we've seen from them in recent years, questions have been raised about their potential to win the Stanley Cup.

That could lead them to make several changes to go from a good to a great team, and one move that has been speculated upon is a trade of forward Trent Frederic, who is set to hit free agency in the summer.

Now, top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has weighed in on the situation, and he has seemingly hinted that the teams calling around the league may ultimately lead to a trade being completed.

Frederic is in the final season of a two-year $4.6MM contract that expires on July 1st, 2025, at which time he will become an unrestricted free agent.

The teams calling on Frederic are asking if Boston intends to sign Frederic or what their thinking could be going forward.

While the drop in production is concerning, the biggest issue for Frederic has been his shooting percentage which has dropped from 14.6% to 9.3%.

It's unclear at this point whether or not Boston intends to trade Frederic or keep him long-term, but if a deal hasn't been reached by this point, there's some part of the front office that is open to a deal.

With a career-high of 40 points a year ago, Frederic can certainly be a solid bottom-six forward anywhere in the league, and while we don't know if Boston intends to add him to a bigger trade or simply get an asset back for him, it's a situation well worth keeping an eye on.
