The Boston Bruins are getting serious interest in defenseman Brandon Carlo in the approach to the March 7 deadline.
Multiple teams have shown interest in his services, with Boston willing to take a regular roster player and a 2025 second-round draft pick, or a high-profile prospect in return, according to RG.org's Jimmy Murphy.
The Bruins are not trading their 28-year-old defenseman, but are open to listening to overtures. One Western Conference executive explained, «Who wouldn't want a top-four, 6-foot-5, right-shot, stay-at-home defenseman?»
With a $4.1 million cap hit until 2026-27, he's a highly desired commodity for contenders in need of defensive fortification.
The season has been a rollercoaster ride for Carlo, though, which has called his trading price tag into question.
He's averaging just 18:40 of ice time per night, his lowest in his third year in Boston, and is Boston's worst regular defenseman in key defensive statistics. But his size, veteran presence, and shutdown skills make him a playoff team's dream acquisition.
The Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars, and Edmonton Oilers have shown interest, with the Oilers in particular interested. Boston is also getting trade interest in Trent Frederic and Morgan Geekie.
While Brad Marchand's name has been in the trade rumor mill, sources say that Boston is extremely unlikely to trade their captain.
With seven games to play until the deadline and a 15% chance of making it to the post-season, Boston's next move is in question. If they're in it, though, they're likely to hold onto Carlo, but if their slide continues, a trade is a distinct possibility.
