In the Atlantic Division, one of the most competitive divisions in the NHL, most teams are only a few points away from a playoff spot.
For teams looking to make the playoffs for the first time in a long time, such as the Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators, Detroit Red Wings, and Montreal Canadiens, every loss is a hard blow, as they keep them away from their ultimate goal.
Last night, the Sabres, who were without their captain Rasmus Dahlin, lost 3-2 against the Winnipeg Jets in overtime. Upon watching the goal replay, it's easy to see why the Sabres lost. They gave away a 2-on-0 in overtime to Adam Lowry and Josh Morrissey, who didn't miss the opportunity to score.
The Sabres defenseman who was on the ice, Bowen Byram, completely lost it after the goal.
He smashed his stick on his net while the Jets were celebrating the win.
Watch how it all went down in the video below:
Byram, 23, tallied 15 points, including four goals in 26 games, which ranks him sixth among all Sabres scorers.
The Sabres are now fifth in their Division, behind the Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins, and Tampa Bay Lightning, with an 11-12-3 record.
Also, only two points separate the Sabres and the Canadiens, who are at the 8th rank, with 23 points in 26 games.
While they got one point in their overtime loss, the team could've used that additional point.
Players are competitive and hate losing, which can explain why Byram lashed out after losing in overtime. Especially considering he was on the ice when the goal was scored.
