Top Defenseman Gives His Team An Ultimatum Ahead Of The Trade Deadline
The Calgary Flames are in line to have a busy next few weeks as they plan on settling trades for their pending UFA's. They already started with one last week when they traded Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks for Andrei Kuzmenko, a 1st round pick in 2024 and two prospects. Next up is the immient Chris Tanev trade and then have to figure out the future regarding another Flames defenceman.
Hanifin given ultimatium by Flames
According to Eric Francis, reporter for the Calgary Flames, the organization has warned Noah Hanifin to either commit to Calgary on a longterm deal or agree to a trade from now until March 8th.
«It's a huge decision obviously it's going to be coming to a head sooner rather than later.» - Noah Hanifin on whether he'll sign an 8-year extension with the Flames or test free agency and be subjected to an imminent trade.
If I were the Flames GM Craig Conroy, I would move on from Hanifin as he doesn't sound too convinced at the idea of staying in Calgary for a long time. Definitely not a good look for the Flames defenceman in that interview with Eric Francis.
On the market, Hanifin would probably be the second best available defenceman behind Jakob Chychrun of the Ottawa Senators. It is clear that Hanifin can get the Flames a nice return in a potential trade.
More details to come.
