Blue Jackets GM reveals a major hurdle in the Patrik Laine trade process
Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell has revealed a major concern regarding the future of a potential Patrick Laine trade.
It was just last week when it was announced that Patrik Laine has requested a change of scenery out of Columbus.
Laine, has been in and out with injuries and inconsistency during his tenure in Columbus, and with a big cap hit, a trade will be difficult according to Don Waddell.
#CBJ GM Don Waddell said Patrik Laine remains in NHL/NHLPA players' assistance program, but expects docs to clear him "soon."
"Teams that have talked about (a trade), they want to talk with him if they're going to make a move."
#NHL clubs can only talk to Laine if he's cleared.
Until Patrick Laine is cleared from the NHL Player's Assistance Program, he can not speak to other teams to facilitate a trade which can make the job of Don Waddell even harder. With the draft approaching very quickly, the hope is that Laine can leave the program to get a trade done ahead of the draft.
