The passing of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau in the summer hit everyone in the NHL and the sporting world hard, as the world lost not only two incredibly talented athletes but two amazing people as well.
The tributes have continued flowing for months, with those in Calgary and Columbus especially paying tribute to No. 13 and all he did for those franchises and communities, with the many responsible for their passing facing upwards of 20 years in jail.
Sean Higgins was already facing charges of Second Degree Reckless Vehicular Homicide, and now, the Grand Jury that is working on the case has added two counts of First Degree Aggravated Manslaughter, Tampering With Physical Evidence, and Leaving The Scene of a Fatal Accident.
Instead of facing 20 years in prison, Higgins is faced with a potential 60 years behind bars if found guilty on all counts, with the New Jersey male continuing to be held without bond.
Given the reckless way that Higgins was driving to ultimately cause the death of both men, it's safe to say that a long stint behind bars is exactly what he deserves, but in the coming weeks and months, that will be left in the hands of the court.
Unfortunately, very little will help to bring the incredible Gaudreau family peace in such a difficult time, but if they see justice being done in the courts it may go a small way to help the healing process throughout all of this, and as of now, it appears Higgins is facing a lengthy stint behind bars.
