At 22-years of age, Moritz Seider has turned into a major piece of the future of the Detroit Red Wings organization, and now he has shown that he can play physical as well. While the Red Wings went down 1-0 to the Nashville Predators on Saturday, it was an eventful game for two teams fighting hard in their respective Wild Card races.
The biggest event in the game happened midway through the second period with the scores locked at 0, when Seider, the 22-year old defenseman collided with Filip Forsberg, before the two immediately dropped the gloves in a thrilling encounter.
It may have looked like two inexperienced fighters in a wild one, because it was, as it was Seider's first fight in the NHL, and the first for Filip Forsberg in over four years. Ultimately though, Seider came out on top after landing some big haymakers, inspiring his team to stay in the fight of this crucial game, but unfortunately it wasn't enough for them to find the back of the net.
The game ended 1-0 for Nashville, with the Detroit Red Wings now sitting just one point ahead of the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race, while the Predators win took them nine points clear of ninth place in the West, almost securing themselves a playoff spot barring a monumental breakdown.
This fight was all about Seider however, as he already has the physical tools and the skills to be a star in the NHL, and if he can learn to fight and play smart while being physical, we may be looking at someone ready to flourish as one of the games next great players.
