Even though the NHL season is on pause, Corey Perry found himself in a bit of action Friday night, it just wasn't on the ice.
The Edmonton Oilers veteran was in attendance for WWE's Friday Night Smackdown, which stopped in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta. While Corey Perry perhaps intended to sit back and enjoy the spectacle, things took a turn when he got involved in an unexpected ringside scuffle.
It was initiated when wrestlers Austin Theory and Grayson Waller came into the ring, who, from the moment they appeared, had enraged the crowd by wearing a Florida Panthers jersey, an obvious jab at Edmonton fans. Their trash talk hit home, and Perry, perhaps taking that jab to heart, found himself right in the middle of it all.
With the action spilling outside of the ring, it got too close for comfort to Corey Perry. Never one to back down, he took full advantage of the moment, grabbing Theory from behind and giving Canadian wrestler Kevin Owens all the opportunity in the world. Owens took full advantage and laid a thunderous slap on Theory that could be heard loud and clear throughout Rogers Place.
Looks like Corey Perry might have a second career waiting for him once he hangs up his skates!
