Over the past 12 months, the Montreal Canadiens have made some intriguing moves in net, and will now turn to Sam Montembeault and Cayden Primeau as their top two names in the NHL for the upcoming year. Beyond that, they've already got three intriguing names with the Laval Rocket of the AHL, and now, they've added once more in the form of Luke Cavallin, a former prospect of the Atlantic Division rival Toronto Maple Leafs.
The 23-year old Ontario native was solid in four years with the OHL's Flint Firebirds, and despite not being drafted, he ended up in the Leafs organization with the ECHL's Newfoundland Growlers, and in 2023/24, it led to him making his AHL debut with the Toronto Marlies. In nine games, he showed promise, posting a 3.01 GAA and an .884 save percentage, but with the competition in the Maple Leafs organization, it made sense to move on.
With three names already in the Canadiens AHL squad, this is a move that appears to be a lateral career move from Cavallin, but at 23-years of age, he's seemingly got a bright future ahead, and if he can find his way into playing time with Laval, the future could be very promising.
