While it's a subject that has been broached a little, very few people considered the potential trade of Sidney Crosby a reality, but now, with training camp on the horizon and the captain still not signed, there are people that are believing this could now become a genuine scenario. After 19 seasons with the team, Crosby will go down as arguably the greatest player to ever put on the uniform, but with Kyle Dubas showing no urgency to get a deal done, a trade is becoming more and more of a possibility according to reporters.
It may still be the least likely path to take, but if it does, the question then becomes, which teams find themselves as the right trade suitors, with the opportunity to genuinely push for a Stanley Cup while also having the pieces and the fortitude to trade for an expiring Crosby. That list of teams reportedly includes the Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche and Winnipeg Jets, and with all four of those teams being in the Western Conference, it makes sense that Pittsburgh would be open to moving him there.
At this stage, the likelihood is that Crosby inks a new deal with the AAV involving the numbers 8 and 7 (like his last deal worth $8.7 million) to retire as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, but for now, teams are preparing for the possibility, potentially making this one of the most intriguing trade deadlines in history.
