Edmonton Oilers hire new GM and fans are furious
The Edmonton Oilers have officially hired a new general manager and fans are furious about the organization's decision.
In breaking news, Stan Bowman has been hired by the Oilers to replace Ken Holland as the new team GM.
Per Ellliotte Friedman:
"Hearing the Edmonton Oilers will hire Stan Bowman as GM todaymedia conference to be held sometime this morning."
Jeff Jackson, the Oilers' CEO, commented on Bowman's arrival in Edmonton. Here's what he said:
"I am excited and pleased to be welcoming Stan to the Edmonton Oilers," said Jeff Jackson, Oilers CEO of Hockey Operations. "I believe his vast experience and proven success in this role, together with the important work he has done in his time away from the game, fits our goal of being best in class when it comes to all facets of our organization. Through our many conversations, we share a common vision of where we are as a team and what is required to achieve another Stanley Cup title."
Alongside Joel Quenneville, he was fired from the Chicago Blackhawks organization in 2021 following the Kyle Beach scandal.
The NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was clear in the past that both Quenneville and Bowman would need to wait before being eligible to rejoin the league. It looks like their time is up.
Don't be surprised if an announcement regarding Joel Quenneville comes in the next few weeks.
Both of them are great at what they do, and the lessons they learned will only make them better at their jobs.
More to come.
