The Edmonton Oilers have had a solid campaign thus far, but if they are to chase their ultimate goal of a Stanley Cup, they're going to need to make some moves ahead of the March 8 trade deadline.

Edmonton Oilers linked to a former first-round draft pick

While most people are eyeing off the likes of Jake Guentzel, Jordan Eberle or Chris Tanev for the Oilers, there's also many cheaper options out there for them.

One such option has been identified by NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, who has recently suggested that former first-round pick Luke Kunin could be an option for the Oilers.

Friedman on 32TP: "Another name I heard for the Oilers was Luke Kunin from San Jose"

An underperforming former top prospect

Unfortunately for Kunin, his career thus far has been riddled by injuries and struggles, but when healthy, he's proven that he can be a solid bottom-six piece for a very good team.

In 2023-24, Kunin has played in 51 games for the Sharks, tallying 8 goals and 10 points over that time, so if the Oilers fail to land a superstar piece for the top-six or their much needed star on the blue line, he could certainly be a good fall back option to fit depth into their lineup as the playoffs approach.
