The Edmonton Oilers have already proven that they are buyers at the trade deadline. However, the team could be looking to sell on key player according to recent rumors.

Edmonton Oilers Shopping Star Winger While Buying At Trade Deadline

According to reports from various sources, the Edmonton Oilers relationship with Evander Kane has started to deteriorate to the point where the contenders are actually considering trading him. This would be a very unusual move for a team in their position, but Kane does have a long history of making himself unwelcome with NHL teams. Fans have noticed that McDavid and Kane even unfollowed each other on social media, indicating a possible rift developing in the team's locker room.

"Something to keep an eye on as the trade deadline approaches the situation with Evander Kane & the #LetsGoOilers has not gone so smoothly this year.

Connor McDavid & Evander Kane have unfollowed each other on IG.

Where does this all go? We shall see but it doesn't look great for Kane yet again. They differently need him for a playoff run if the plan is Cup or bust."

Whether or not these rumors are serious remains to be seen. However, given the way Kane has left other NHL teams including the Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks, it should come as no surprise that he is having a tough time fitting in in Edmonton too.

Oilers Committed To Buying At Trade Deadline

All of that being said, the Oilers have already established themselves as major players this year at the deadline. The team made their first major move when they acquired Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick from the Anaheim Ducks. The team gave up multiple draft assets to get the deal done.

TRADE: We have acquired a 2024 first-round pick and a conditional 2025 fifth-round selection from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for forwards Sam Carrick, Adam Henrique and a 2024 seventh-round selection.

As such, it would be very odd for the Oilers to then go and trade Kane as he is one of their better forwards, especially when it comes to scoring goals. Unless they can make some kind of 'hockey trade' where the team gets an equally skilled player in return, such a deal would seem unlikely. Regardless, we will know soon enough what the team plans for him as the trade deadline is now less than 24 hours away. Be sure to stay tuned for all the action.
