The Edmonton Oilers demolished the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, and it may all come back to a fantastic decision made by Head Coach Kris Knoblauch before the third period.

Corey Perry demoted to the third line

With the game close heading into the final frame, Knoblauch decided to make a move with Corey Perry, demoting him to the third line, and as we saw, it paid off in a big way.

Oilers third-period lines:
Kane-Draisaitl-Holloway
Foegele-McLeod-Perry

The move saw Perry pushed down a line to play alongside McLeod and Foegele, but it paid off huge as the Oilers saw Holloway net a key goal and the team net an amazing five goals in the final frame.

A versatile addition for the Edmonton Oilers

Perry has played just five games since arriving in Edmonton, tallying just one assist over that time, but with his versatility and physical presence on the ice, his signing could still pay off in a big way.

With moves potentially still to be made ahead of the March 8 deadline, the Oilers lines won't likely be set in stone until sometime after that, but for now, having someone like Perry is a major positive for the Oilers as they look to chase another Stanley Cup.
