The Los Angeles Kings and restricted free agent winger Arthur Kaliyev have come to an "in principle" agreement on a one-year deal, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
David Pagnotta adds that it's expected to be close to his $874,125 qualifying offer, and it does nothing to affect Kaliyev's standing trade request, which has been in place since at least May. Regardless of this deal, he still wants a fresh start and would prefer to be moved.
Of course, that doesn't preclude Kaliyev will be traded before the season starts, as trade talks are still capable of bleeding into the regular season. The trade demand comes on the heels of the winger having an up-and-down 2023-24 season, one in which offense was always seemingly around the corner but where he struggled more to find consistent playing time. In that regard, the Kings locked up his services for the short term while continuing to shop him around to other teams.
Arthur Kaliyev was a second-round, 33rd-overall pick of the LA Kings in 2019. He's played in 188 NHL games, having scored 35 goals and 36 assists, for 71 points.
