The past week in the NHL has been full of drama and player movement, and on Friday, the San Jose Sharks added to that when they traded for Yaroslav Askarov, one of the top goaltending prospects in the NHL from the Nashville Predators. The deal to land him cost them David Edstrom and the Vegas Golden Knights 2025 first-round pick, but it was a great move for the up-and-coming team, although the move has been questioned for Nashville.
Since the deal, General Manager Barry Trotz has faced plenty of criticism, but now he's fired back, calling out Askarov as he revealed that he had private talks with the goaltender, but after the 22-year-old made those talks known publicly, they had to begin the trade process much quicker than first anticipated.
It's unclear that Trotz is unhappy with how the situation played out, but given the extension to star goaltender Juuse Saros, this was only a matter of time, and now it's up to Askarov to show that he was worth all of the trouble as the Nashville Predators have their eyes set on a deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run in 2024/25.
