The Nashville Predators have been one of the NHL's worst teams thus far in 2024/25, and now it's just getting worse, as young forward Zachary L'Heureux faces a suspension for a play during Tuesday's loss to
the Minnesota Wild.
During the loss to their Central Division rivals, the 21-year-old L'Heureux would slew-foot veteran captain Jared Spurgeon, resulting in an injury that Spurgeon now needs to have an MRI for.
Given his injury history in recent years, this is the last thing that Spurgeon needed, and what makes matters worse is how unnecessary and dangerous the play was from the rookie.
Now,
the NHL's Department of Player Safety has officially announced on social media that L'Heureux will face a hearing for the play on Wednesday, and given his reputation already, he will likely be dealing with a suspension as a result of it.
In just 33 games of his rookie campaign, L'Heureux already has 32 penalty minutes, including a game misconduct as a result of this hit, which left Spurgeon on the ice after the play, and drew the ire of his opponents.
In that time, the 21-year-old is a -7 and is quickly building a reputation as one of the league's dirtiest players in his rookie campaign, which isn't exactly how most players want to start their career off in the NHL.
It's unclear whether or not the NHL's Department of Player Safety will pull the trigger on a suspension here, as they've been wildly inconsistent in 2024/25, but given the high danger of the play and just how unnecessary it was, it's more likely than not that he'll face at least one game on the sidelines.
