The New York Islanders are fighting for their playoff lives in 2023-24, so this horrific play from captain Anders Lee was the last thing this team needed.

Anders Lee has been ejected for this knee on Nico Hischier 😬

Lee clearly targeted the knee of New Jersey captain Nico Hischier in an incredibly dirty way, something his teammates, especially Timo Meier took immediate exception too. Lee was given a match penalty and ejected from the game immediately, and unsurprisingly, it's likely that he will face the wrath of the NHL's Department of Player Safety.

Anders Lee was given a major penalty and game misconduct for kneeing against Nico Hischier

The NHL certainly haven't been lenient on plays they think are unnecessary or intentional as of late, and looking at the footage, it appears completely clear that the 33-year old was targeting Hischier's knee. More details will follow as the game concludes and we hear from the NHL about a possible sanction for the Islanders captain in what could be the final blow to their playoff hopes in 2023-24.
