Igor Shesterkin loses his cool and gets rough with Sidney Crosby
Last night, in a crucial Metropolitan Division clash between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers, goalie Igor Shesterkin lost his cool and got rough with Sidney Crosby.
The Penguins' captain was chasing the puck and tried to maneuver around Shesterkin, but the goalie stood his ground. He backed Crosby into the wall and then turned to shove him off with his stick.
In his post-game comments, Crosby shared his thoughts about what happened, explaining it as a spur-of-the-moment thing.
Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby opens up on small incident with Rangers' Igor Shesterkin
It's been a challenging season for the Penguins, who are in danger of missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. But the win last night earned them two crucial points, boosting their playoff chances from 1.3% to 8.2%.
The Rangers, on the other hand, have already clinched their spot in the playoffs, the first team to do so this season.
The Penguins ended up winning 5-2, in an amazing group effort in which we could feel the urgency. The Rangers where visibly dissatisfied with their performance and it was highlighted by Shesterkin's gesture.

"Igor Shesterkin not afraid to give it to Sidney Crosby"
And here are Crosby's comments:
"I think he's just trying to get himself in the game, obviously we had the lead, and he didn't see a lot of shots in the 2nd, we didn't get a lot. I think he was trying to create a little emotion.
I've had a few run ins with goalies in this building before, so I've tried to learn from that a little bit and just try to worry about playing. But we were just competing out there and I don't think there's anything to that. You know that's one that usually doesn't happen, but you know, that's part of the game."
