Igor Shesterkin is one of the best goalies in the league, and now the agent for the Rangers superstar is looking to make his client the highest paid in the NHL.

New York Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin was the standout player during the team's recent playoff run, consistently delivering stellar performances between the pipes. Despite the team's early exit, Shesterkin impressed with a stingy 2.28 GAA and an outstanding .927 save %. As one of the league's top netminders, the 28-year-old is poised to command a significant contract extension before becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season. Although details of the negotiations have been closely guarded, Shesterkin recently confirmed that talks have begun.

Igor Shesterkin is reportedly eyeing a deal that would surpass his fellow countryman Artemi Panarin's $11.64 million annual salary, potentially making him the highest-paid player on the Rangers' team. According to Mollie Walker of the New York Post, his agent could be seeking an AAV of $12 million for the new contract.

"My agent, Maxim Moliver, is talking to the general manager," Shesterkin said. "I can't say anything else. For me, the most important thing now is preparing for the season and being 100% ready mentally and physically. An exciting season is ahead, and the agent will discuss the contract."

Should Igor Shesterkin secure such a deal, it would set a new standard for goaltenders across the league. Currently, Carey Price, who isn't playing anymore, holds the highest-value contract for a goalie, with his eight-year deal in Montreal carrying an AAV of $10.5 million, while Andrei Vasilevskiy's contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning carries a $9.5 million cap hit over eight years. The Rangers have a history of investing heavily in their goaltenders, as is evident by Henrik Lundqvist's seven-year, $59.5 million deal signed in December 2013, which included an $8.5 million cap hit.

Shesterkin posted a 2.58 GAA and .913 save % last season and has consistently proven himself as one of the elite goaltenders in the NHL. With his exceptional track record, he is well-positioned to secure a massive deal that reflects his status as one of the game's best, if not one of the top goalies of all-time.
