Trevor Zegras remains one of the NHL's most exciting young talents, and while he wants to play with the home town Rangers, it isn't happening anytime soon.
The New York Rangers reported interest in Anaheim Ducks star Trevor Zegras has been consistent all summer long, but now, a recent report has revealed that they aren't as interested in him as was made out.
I don't think the Rangers have ever been interested in Zegras, much as the local kid would love to be a Ranger. I don't think the Sabres have ever seriously considered moving Tuch. And if the Rangers were in on either of those guys, it would take a lot more than Kakko as the centerpiece of whatever was going the other way.
The deal with Kakko now, after five pro seasons and 300 NHL games, is that he's not a player other teams are coveting. Teams surely want him, and I'd guess Drury has received offers but nothing good he's a buy-low player now.

This is a surprise, as the makings of a deal were clear, with the New York kid looking to join the playoff contender, but with GM Chris Drury looking to build a contender, they may believe that his softer style of play, similar to the beliefs of GM Pat Verbeek just aren't what a top team needs.
With New York needing to make some upgrades, especially with Kaapo Kakko, they will be searching far and wide for a talented young winger, but at this stage, Zegras simply hasn't proved himself. In his first two full seasons, Zegras had 23 goals per year, but coming off an injury riddled 2023/24 campaign, he will be looking to bounce back in a big way, so perhaps Drury's tune will change between now and then, but for now, don't expect the Rangers to make a blockbuster play for the 23-year old.
