The incident between the teammates occurred in January 2021 after the Rangers beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4. Due to what happened, the Rangers ended up waiving Tony DeAngelo.
Tony DeAngelo is now sharing his side of the events that took place. During an interview on the "Morning Cuppa Hockey" podcast, he clarified the incident and the events that led up to it while also taking responsibility for his actions.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman was actually the one who informed Tony DeAngelo that the team placed him on waivers as opposed to being traded, and DeAngelo admitted he was expecting the team to let him go after that incident.
Tony DeAngelo is currently a free agent after he became the first player in NHL history to have his contract bought out two separate times. DeAngelo has played in 197 games in the NHL and totaled 92 points. Aside from playing with the Rangers, he also suited up on two separate occasions for the Carolina Hurricanes as well as with the Philadelphia Flyers.
