New Ottawa Senator David Perron has stepped away from the NHL, at least momentarily, to focus on his family and personal life.

Following his departure from the Detroit Red Wings after two seasons, the Canadian native was looking forward to his new life on the Ottawa Senators, who recently had a big win against the Detroit Red Wings. The veteran was hoping to help improve his team and lead them to a better finish than last year's previous finish of 7th in the Atlantic Division. Unfortunately, life seemed to have other plans for Perron, as much more important things took priority in his life.

Perron and his wife, Vanessa, had been expecting a child for some time. Their daughter, due to be named Elizabeth, had suffered complications in the womb, suffering from a large congenital pulmonary airway malformation. Due to the unforeseen complication, it seems the unborn baby will need to undergo immediate emergency surgery at birth, and the risks for both mother and baby seem to be immense.

At a time like this, no one would think of blaming Perron for stepping away from the fast-paced, high-pressure world of the NHL. In his time in the league, playing for numerous teams such as the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and Vegas Golden Knights, Perron has established himself as a well-respected and much appreciated veteran, by fans and teams alike. If and when he decides to return, his team and head coach Travis Green, goalkeeper Linus Ullmark who just signed an extension with the team, and everyone else on the roster will welcome him back with open arms.

The entire NHL fanbase is with Perron, and wish him the very best with his family. We are all sure he'll come back stronger from this very difficult time in his life.
