Being an EBUG can sometimes be one of the most chaotic roles in hockey, and we saw that in full effect on Saturday with Zachary Dietz in Ottawa as a video of him getting to the arena has now gone viral.

The early part of the NHL season has seen plenty of chaos both on and off the ice, and on Saturday we got yet another taste of that during the Ottawa Senators home matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The story of this game off the ice was Emergency Backup Goaltender (EBUG) Zachary Dietz, who was originally at the game in a Josh Norris jersey, shortly before finding out that he was needed in the EBUG role.

That led to plenty more chaos, with the 22-year-old scrambling to get home and grab his gear, ultimately ending up with a hilarious, viral video of the young goaltender running in the tough conditions to get back to the arena in time.

To further the story, The Athletic's Julien McKenzie posted a photo of Dietz's jersey, revealing that the University of Ottawa goalie sat all alone in the dressing room if he was needed, which he ultimately wasn't as Linus Ullmark made 25 saves on the night to pick up the 3-2 win.

According to most around the situation, Dietz handled it well, and the video of him running to the arena will no doubt be played all season long in NHL circles as one of the funniest moments of the year.

While capping the story off with an appearance from Dietz would have made for an incredible story, the NHL is still all about winning, and given how rare EBUG appearances or stories truly are, this is a great one that should be looked back on fondly as the year rolls on.
