The modern-day NHL is one of the most enjoyable products on the sports market, but unfortunately, it isn't perfect, with question marks over many aspects of the game raised by fans.
However, one of the worst is diving or embellishment, with many fans calling out players for diving for penalties on the ice, most of which goes uncalled by the officials or the league after the fact.
Now, they may have started cracking down on it, as the league has officially fined Ottawa's Josh Norris $2,000 for embellishment against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think, whether or not this was the right call from the league.
What is most ironic about this situation however is that Norris' teammate Tim Stutzle is renowned around the league as arguably the biggest diver in the NHL, with fans quick to point out the inconsistency in calling embellishment.
In this one instance, it's hard to argue against the league's decision, as Norris certainly went down of his own accord looking for a penalty on the play, but this happens routinely around the league, with very little of it being called.
Ultimately though, a $2,000 fine for a player who earns as much as Norris does won't be the biggest issue for him, and if the league can manage to call this consistently, it will be good for the NHL, but if they fine him and allow others to continue to get away with it, it's safe to say that fans will continue their criticism of the way things are called.
