Scott Laughton's name has been in trade rumors for months now as we inch closer to the trade deadline.
The Flyers are clearly in a position to sell as they sit dead last in the Metro Division.
As such, many are expecting the team to move the 30-year-old before March 7th.
Laughton has proven himself to be an effective, two-way third-line center at the NHL level in recent years.
He can play in all situations including on the penalty kill and je chips in a decent amount of offense as well.
Furthermore, he is under contract for another season at a cap hit of just 3 million dollars, making him an eye-watering option for contenders on a budget.
As such, it should be no surprise that the nest teams in the league are going to be calling about him.
Today, NHL insider Frank Seravalli revealed that the Washington Capitals, who lead the Eastern Conference with 80 points in 55 games, may be one of those teams calling the Flyers in the coming weeks.
With all of that being said, the Capitals will have to make a substantial offer to take Laughton off of the Flyers' hands.
After all, he is under contract for one more year, so they do not have to trade him this season.
Furthermore, multiple teams including the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets have expressed interest in him this season, so there could be a bidding war for his services.
Be sure to stay tuned to see how the Capitals fare and whether or not they can secure Laughton for their playoff run.
