The Penguins are in the middle of a tumultuous time as the Crosby-Malkin era appears to be coming to an end. While the team may not be playoff-caliber anymore, their fans will still enjoy watching number 87 though as Crosby signed a two-year extension with the club in September. So while the team may not have much on-ice success in the next couple of years, at least the fans have something to look forward to. Over the next three seasons, Crosby will continue to set new franchise and even league records as he did tonight after he earned his 14,383rd career faceoff win.
Faceoff victories may seem like a silly thing to keep track of, especially for the record books, but Crosby's dominance in the faceoff circle has genuinely been a hallmark of his career. While a single face-off win or loss typically won't result in anything significant, over time they certainly add up. Even within the course of a single game, which team wins more of them could be a deciding factor. Crosby has been one of the most consistent leaders in this area of the game for virtually his entire career.
This will not be the only record Crosby sets before he retires either. He is just two goals away from joining Wayne Gretzky in an extremely exclusive club of NHL players. With his 600th goal he will join the great one as the only other player in NHL history with 600 career goals, 1600 points, 3 Stanley Cups, and two Conn Smythe trophies. This record could literally be set at any moment so be sure to tune in to Penguins games as Crosby could make more history very soon.
