PK Subban Tosses Major Insults At Penguins GM Kyle Dubas Over His Deadline Moves
NHL analyst and former star defenseman PK Subban has never been shy to share his opinion on hockey matters. This continued during a recent broadcast on ESPN where Subban spoke about the job that Kyle Dubas has done in Pittsburgh.
Penguins Become Sellers At The Deadline
The Pittsburgh Penguins have become a mainstay in the playoff picture for well over a decade now. This year many expected a similar result. However, by time the deadline came the Penguins were near the bottom of the standings and had to look to the future. This led to a firesale of sorts of good players on expiring deals.
The Penguins made two big moves at the deadline to get assets for the future for current players. The less notable move was trading defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to the New York Rangers.
The Penguins have acquired a 2027 fourth-round draft pick from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Chad Ruhwedel.
The next move was arguably the biggest trade of the deadline sending Jake Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Full trade:
Pittsburgh trades Jake Guentzel (25% retained) and Ty Smith to Carolina in exchange for Michael Bunting, Ville Koivunen, Vasili Ponomarev, Cruz Lucius, Carolina's 1st RD pick in 2024 (Conditional) and Carolina's 5th RD pick in 2024 (Conditional). Many fans both around Pittsburgh and the NHL as a whole saw this return for Guentzel as majorly disappointing. NHL analyst PK Subban was one of those people and he shared his controversial thoughts on Kyle Dubas and the Penguins plan.
Subban Insults Dubas With Recent Comments
On the most recent ESPN broadcast of hockey yesterday afternoon PK Subban and the crew were talking about the Pittsburgh Penguins. Subban believes that the Penguins' struggles this season can be attributed to the lack of good moves made by the front office.
I don't think there's enough accountability on management when it comes to these situations, said Subban. To look at a player like Sidney Crosby... he deserves an opportunity to play in the playoffs and it's on management to put the best team around him. I don't think they did that this year. Subban didn't stop there he went on to blatantly insult Kyle Dubas himself. Subban would end up making a snarky comment on how he believes Dubas is not as smart as the pedestal he is put on.
Apparently that's all it takes, you put on a pair of spectacles and it makes you the smartest person in the room," said a very sarcastic Subban in reference to Dubas.
Fans of the NHL of course are not going to be happy about the direction of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby is one of the greatest players in the history of the sport and seeing him held back on bad teams will always cause outrage. The Penguins will have a lot of work to do this offseason to get things back on track.
