Sidney Crosby sheds light on his future with the Pittsburgh Penguins in new interview
With only one season left on his $8.7M AAV contract that he signed with the Penguins back in 2012, Sidney Crosby has been involved in a lot of rumors concerning the next chapter of his illustrious career.
Kyle Dubas, General Manager and President of Hockey Operations of the Penguins, made a few questionable moves since he was hired in Pittsburgh, and many fans were afraid that he could push Crosby to another organization.
However, it looks like that's not what's going to happen.
In an interview during the NHL/NHLPA Player Media Tour in Las Vegas, Crosby revealed that he's "pretty optimistic" that a deal will be reached before the start of the season:
"I think something will get done. It's just a matter of, at my age, just trying to figure out, I think, how many years? It's hard to project at this point. It's kind of a year-to-year thing.
"It's not easy to have a crystal ball and know how long you're going to play for, but I'd like to think that something is going to get worked out here."
Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent, confirmed that both sides are close to making a deal:
"As Sidney indicated today during the NHL media tour, we should be able to finalize the details of an extension with the Penguins shortly."
Crosby, 37, looks poised to play the rest of his career in Pittsburgh, where he played 1,272 games, scored 1,596 points, and won three Stanley Cups in the past 19 seasons.
