Things turned very worrisome for St. Louis Blues forward Radek Faksa when he left Tuesday's game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Late in the third, Radek Faksa was battling for a puck along the boards when he appeared to be cut in the groin area by a skate blade.
He immediately left the ice surface and went directly to the locker room which had some teammates and fans a little concerned.
He has been working with St. Louis Blues head coach Jim Montgomery since his arrival in St. Louis and didn't take long after the incident to pass on some reassuring news.
Montgomery said Faksa was doing all right and that he got cut by a skate. Faksa had to get some stitches, but thankfully, there won't be any major damage long-term.
Dr. Harjas Grewal, a sports injury specialist, added context to the play, stating that an injury like that can be pretty severe. Any injury to the femoral artery in the groin area can require immediate medical intervention that can certainly be life-threatening.
Fortunately, it appears that Faksa has escaped that. The Blues defeated the Canucks 4-3 in overtime. Faksa is in his first full NHL season with the Stars, accounting for seven points, two goals, and five assists, in 29 games.
While his timeline for recovery remains in question, early reports are hopefully indicating that Faksa will again be on the ice with no lasting harm.
