The San Jose Sharks have had one of their worst seasons ever this year. Today some of the team's frustration showed when defenseman Calen Addison was ejected for abuse of officials after he argued a soft penalty called against him.

The original call was a cross check on Blues forward Nathan Walker. While Addison does technically cross check him, this kind of play is very often overlooked by the officials, especially since Walker appeared to be falling down on his own to begin with anyways. It is impossible to tell what the Sharks defenseman said to get the boot given the camera angles available in the game, but he did not appear to be particularly aggressive about his complaining.

Addison also received a two-minute penalty for cross-checking, a two-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 10-minute misconduct

However, the referee clearly disagreed as he handed the 23-year-old a grand total for 24 penalty minutes on the play. The original 2 minutes was accompanied by an extra 2 for unsportsmanlike conduct, a ten minute misconduct, and a game misconduct.

Despite the trigger-happy ref, the Blues failed to capitalize on the ensuing powerplay. The Sharks currently lead the Blues 2-0 early in the third period. The Sharks are going for the season sweep of St. Louis tonight, having beat them 5-1 and 4-0 in their previous two matchups. It would be quite the feat for the league's worst team to go a perfect 3-0 against any team at all.
