The Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois shared an update on Steven Stamkos' contract negotiations in a recent interview.

BriseBois revealed that there is currently no deal in place with the Bolts' captain. However, he met with Stamkos and his agent and they could reach an agreement that satisfies both sides before July 1st.
Julien BriseBois said they have met with Steven Stamkos & his agents as recently as yesterday said they have not been able to come to a deal at this point that satisfies both sides, won't add more other than he's not sure if they will be able to get a deal done by Monday.

Added that both sides are still interested and motivated to get a deal completed, but not there at this point.

Julien BriseBois met Steven Stamkos' agent yesterday but there is no assurance yet that he will return with the @TBLightning next season.

Stamkos, one of the most respected played in the NHL, will generate a lot of interest on the free agent market if he doesn't sign in Tampa Bay. Many teams should show interest, such as the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens or Nashville Predators.
Editor Update:
Stamkos will be heading to free agency.
From Stamkos' agent Don Meehan, who tells me regarding his client:
«He will be a free agent on July 1.»
So would appear Stamkos is going to market Monday unless something changes in Tampa's position. Will have more in a piece today in
