Max Pacioretty was once one of the most lethal goal scorers in all of the NHL. With the Montreal Canadiens, he was a consistent 30+ goal scorer who could pot 60 points. Then with the Vegas Golden Knights, he saw a jump in his production scoring nearly a point per game over his last three season with Vegas.
Since then, he was traded to Carolina where he struggled through two Achilles injuries and then left in free agency after only five games played in Carolina. He signed in Washington and saw a major decline in his performance.
Scoring only four goals and 23 points in 47 games, it looks like Pacioretty is entering the twilight of his career. In a recent interview, it was confirmed by Washington Capitals GM Brian MacLellan that they have no intentions of bringing Pacioretty back.
This is quite a contrast from years prior and also significant of where Pacioretty is in his career. At 35 years old, Pacioretty may be finished in the NHL and could retire but if a team wants to take a swing on him, he could prove to be valuable if he bounces back.
