The Toronto Maple Leafs have made a lot of enemies in the NHL community over the last couple of seasons. Fans of several other teams often cite the Maple Leafs as their least favorite team. During the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning game last night the fans broke out in an anti Maple Leafs chant.
These teams have a lot of bad blood between one another due to the last several years of highly intense games. With the postseason fast approaching the Maple Leafs might have an opportunity to shut the mouths of not just one but both of these fan bases.
As of today, the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to match up against the Florida Panthers in the first round. However, the Panthers are just two points behind the Boston Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Division.
If the Bruins drop to second place they would likely play the Maple Leafs. The Bruins have been on a notoriously bad streak of play lately. Their play has been so bad in fact that head coach Jim Montgomery had the team bag skating to get the message across.
The Tampa Bay Lightning could play spoiler to this playoff scenario as they are just two points behind the Maple Leafs. Any way that this unfolds the rivalry between all three teams will be enhanced. If we are lucky we will get to see the Maple Leafs try and take down their Atlantic Division rivals in pursuit of a Stanley Cup.
