Over the years, fans have become accustomed to Chris Tanev putting his body on the line time and time again, as the former Canucks, Flames, and Stars defenseman has suffered many brutal injuries during his career getting in front of the puck.
On Tuesday against the New York Islanders, he did it again, as he once again stood in front of a puck, blocking it with his face as he looked to give his team the advantage during a very tough matchup while they held a 1-0 lead.
While we didn't see Tanev lose any teeth this time, the scene wasn't any less gruesome for fans, as his mouth was covered in blood before he spat out a blood-soaked bit of gum that he had in his mouth.
In the past few seasons, Calgary Flames fans have become accustomed to seeing Tanev down on the ice or dealing with some kind of brutal injury, but time and time again, he perseveres through his toughness and gets back on the ice.
Thankfully this time it wasn't his teeth that Tanev was spitting up, and hopefully, he'll be okay as the team battles New York again on Thursday, but for now what appeared to be a very brutal situation is one he'll come out the other side of, likely unscathed.
The Maple Leafs would end up coming out on top 3-1 in this game, proving that once again Tanev blocking a puck with his face has helped his team come out on top, as they allowed just one goal on 31 shots on the night.
