faced his Leafs teammate William Nylander in last night's 4 Nations game, and he broke his silence today on how it all went down.

Mitch Marner is going hard in his new rivalry with Toronto Maple Leafs teammates Auston Matthews and William Nylander in their Four Nations game.

Marner indicated that he is eager to get in their heads now that they're on opposite sides of the rink.

«Of course, we're still buddies.»

- Mitch Marner

He said he was looking forward to playing Matthews and Nylander as opponents instead of teammates, emphasizing his need to win national pride.

Well, I mean, I think for all of us, every team has a lot of skill and can make a lot of plays.

So, it's about staying patient, knowing that none of these games will be easy. You're going to have to work for your chances and make the most of your opportunities.

Yeah, it'll be great. It's exciting. We've played against each other before in these kinds of events, so it's always fun to go up against your teammates.

There's always a little bit of chirping, so it should be a good one.

Marner says Nylander was very quiet

Against Sweden in Canada's game, Marner attempted to get in Nylander's head, but the Swedish forward didn't take the bait.

Caught each other's eyes a couple of times. He was pretty quiet. I was saying a few things, but he kept it pretty quiet.

- Mitch Marner

After Canada won 4-3 in overtime, Marner said that Nylander was keeping it low-key in their interactions. Marner, however, got in his shot, scoring in overtime to win the game and send a message for his country.

«Yeah, I didn't expect him and Willy to get much love from this fan base. That's usually how it is when we play here against the Habs, so it wasn't too surprising.»

- Mitch Marner

Nylander has been tight-lipped on the ice, but as one of Sweden's marquee players, he'll be looking to let his play do his talking for the rest of the tournament.

Marner won't be facing Nylander anymore in this tournament unless both countries happen to face each other in the final game for the coveted trophy.
